Oryx Announces Launch of FXT 40™, the First 40mg Fluoxetine Capsule for the Management of Depression

Mississauga, Ontario - April 26th, 2002 — Oryx Pharmaceuticals Inc., a new Canadian pharmaceutical company, today announced the launch of FXT 40™, FXT 20™ and FXT 10™ for the management of depression, bulimia and obsessive-compulsive disorder. FXT 40 (fluoxetine 40mg capsule) is the first and only 40 mg fluoxetine capsule available in Canada.

Nationally, over 20% of patients currently taking fluoxetine have been prescribed a 40mg dosage and have been swallowing two 20mg capsules. FXT 40 will provide these patients the convenience of taking just one FXT 40 capsule. Compliance with prescription medications can be a significant issue for many Canadians and the convenience of FXT 40 will certainly simplify dosing for physicians and patients of this widely prescribed medication.

Fluoxetine was the first SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) launched in Canada under the widely known trade name Prozac®, and remains one of the most commonly prescribed newer generation anti-depressants not only for depression, but also for bulimia and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Oryx Pharmaceuticals will be promoting FXT 40 along with FXT 20 and FXT 10 (the 10 and 20 mg capsules) to high prescribing physicians of fluoxetine through its national specialty sales force and targeted direct marketing.
